I’ve been in the middle for the last couple years. The middle passage way between an old life and a new one. The apartment I stayed in, after moving from a neighborhood I lived in for 9 years, was the middle unit of the building in the middle of the block. The last few weeks here I have been returning to the same tree, a tree that stands in the middle surrounded by others. The first day I came to the tree it gave me some tough, necessary love.
“At the center of your storm is You. Look at the ways you are contributing to your own internal overwhelm.”
And there it was, the Truth. Given in a loving way. There is a difference between accountability and chastising. There is a way to deliver truth without being harmful.
I kept returning to that tree. I trusted it. To be honest with me and direct while remaining loving.
There is a lot of truth that comes from the center, the core of it all.
The middle is your greatest teacher. There you will find your deepest wounds and embedded stories. You will discover what requires your attention to be able to move forward.
Are you listening?
Lessons from the Center
Always tell the truth.
Stand on your own, but surround yourself with those who strengthen and protect you.
Ask for support when you need it.
Take no moment for granted, there is Love and lessons in it all.
Express gratitude often and with sincerity.
Be patient with people, especially when they are learning.
Be open to criticism, that is how you grow.
Where you water is what grows, so pour wisely and remember to water yourself.
Keep looking up in the direction you are growing, but more importantly look forward.
Be where your feet are.
Until the next time, friends.
With Love,
Grace
P.S. I move out of the middle at the end of this week.

It is a quest, isn’t it? Finding our center and staying true to it. Nurturing it. Listening to it. The balancing. Trying not to deviate too far in any direction. All worth it.
Absolutely beautiful. Serendipitously I will be posting an essay (in about 6 weeks) on the middle path as well, I'll be eager to get your thoughts. We aren't taught how to find the center of things in this culture and yet it's so important. Love what you wrote, and your unique and wise perspective on it. Thank you!
