As the saying, “wherever you go there you are” goes, the same is true for gardening. Wherever you garden, there you are. The garden will always reflect you back to you. How you tend to it, what shows up when in process…there you are.
I’ve been in the mountains of Costa Rica answering a call that has been buzzing in my ear. This return has been a reclaiming and rewriting of an old story. People aren’t the only mirrors, sometimes places are too. During my stay, I have been spending time in the garden that is on the grounds. While here, the tender wound of unmet needs began opening. The sadness and frustration of wanting an emotional response from someone who is unable and unavailable to give it.
There is a caretaker of the garden who lovingly welcomed me to join her in her sanctuary.
Her, strong and focused, using the machete - the warrior
Me, in healing, using the clips - the wounded. Gaining strength with each intentional release.
There is something therapeutic about being in a garden, cutting out what no longer serves you.
Clip - resentment
Clip - doubt
Clip - over explaining
Clip - unmet expectations
Clip, clip, clip
My time here has been spent in rest, releasing what no longer serves me, and tending to the seeds I am planting in their place. With each cut I feel myself growing stronger.
I have faced many fears since being here. Driving out into the mountains in a foreign country on my own. Arriving in the thick of night, met by nothing but darkness. Greeted by the crawlers of the night. Confronting many entities that would have had me run the opposite direction in the past, until I realized I am bigger than them, than this. I can face them or choose to leave them where they are.
By Day 3 I was less afraid of the screeches, rattles, and chirps of the night. Both internally and in my environment. By Day 3 I was in the garden cutting out what no longer served.
It is now Day 4. My nervous system is at peace, I can lean into ease, go with the flow. Perfect time because the current is picking up again, moving me to what is next.
Until next time, Friends.
Sending Love on the Journey,
Grace
